Can't set mail server

I have a strange problem with trying to set the mail server on the sharepoint portal central administration. I'm at the page titled:
"Configure E-Mail Server Settings" (globalemailconfig.aspx). I then fill in the server name and the reply email address. When I click the OK button, nothing happens. The cancel button works fine, but the OK button does nothing. Also, I don't see any script errors on the IE status bar either. I have tried this on the server, but also on an XP workstation, so it doesn't seem to be a problem related to browser security. If anyone from Microsoft could please help, I would greatly appreciate it.

We have had a similar problem but with another page. Apparently running: aspnet_regiis -r on the server fixed that.
