A simple task:: To create a user folder and move email into it

This has always been a simple task.

  1. Place the cursor on the mail account name in the left hand list
  2. Right click and select ‘New folder’
  3. Name the folder.
  4. Drag the mail into it

The above works pretty much for ANY local mail client.

Now try doing this in the Windows 8 mail app. I can’t see any way to do it from within the app, so what next?

Click on the ‘desktop’ app and hope that you have not removed IE from the taskbar because you will need it to bring up ‘Outlook.com’.With Outlook.com running, you can now create and name your new folder.

Going back into the Windows 8 mail app, you may not immediately see the new folder. I had to go in and out three times.

OK, it was a simple enough fix but only if you know what to do. Intuitive it most definitely isn’t. It is as intuitive as having a full screen app in front of you that has no obvious ‘kill’ mechanism, or a Start menu without an obvious ‘kill’ switch.

All of these little quirks  can add up to advice being passed, person to person, that Windows 8 is more trouble than it is worth.

Why doesn’t the mail app have the above facility, and will it get it along with the ability to add POP3 mail accounts?
