It’s neat being able to install the latest Microsoft operating system before it becomes main stream. MSDN and TechNet account holders have been able to do it since August 15, but it is not all plain sailing.

Microsoft’s infrastructure which will back up the operating system is not fully in place yet, and little things like the Windows 8 Update server are not online. This means that not only will Windows 8 updates not be piped through, and this applies to any Microsoft product updates which have traditionally been fed this way.

So, if you are running Microsoft Office on Windows 8, and have clean installed it as I had to do, unless you go to the Office website for the service packs and updates, your Office products will be running bare.

For now, Office 2010 SP1 can be downloaded from here..

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2460049

For any previous Office service packs, download from here..

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/servicepack.aspx?q=download&fs=producttype~%255e%2522Service%2520Pack%2522%2524

There is a general Office update for August here, MS12-057, and if you have Visio, MS12- 059. You might want to install them as appropriate..

Note also that Microsoft Fix-it is not compatible with Windows 8 yet.
