Yes, I think so... For my pages Sticky Tools works better, and also supports many windows forms where I had problems with Roboform...

Hmmmmmm, as far as I know this is eliminated because it is elevated :(

However you can try it yourself. Go to scheduled tasks, find scheduled task named Elevated and just uncheck checkbox that is stating that you want to run application elevated.

If that works (application is NOT elevated and you don't get unidentified program prompts), I can add it as option ;)

I really like this solution. Would it be possible to make a non-elevated version of this for the sole purpose of suppressing those obnoxious "unidentified program" prompts? I noticed this trick eliminates those, but I'd rather not have to needlessly elevate them as well.

that's not exactly what I am looking for :( For IE7, you have similar functionality built into IE7Pro (ie7pro.blogspot.com/.../use-ie7pro-as-proxy-switcher.html).

I would rather have "Local Proxy" that will allow me to easily switch (Local Proxy -> Direct internet, Local Proxy -> Proxy1, Local Proxy -> Proxy2). Local Proxy should of course run locally on my computer.

That would allow me to change proxy ONCE for all programs (in case I will point that program to my Local Proxy).

That would easily solve all my problem at once. Currently I have home office, so I don't have any problems with proxies at all :)

Martin, this comment comes waaaay after your posting, but I thought this might be handy.

I use Firefox and an Add-on called FoxyProxy:

http://foxyproxy.mozdev.org/

And it lets me configure multiple proxy servers, and set the proxy based on wildcards or regular expressions.

It also puts an icon in the Status Bar so that I can manually switch to a specific proxy. Nice!

If you have a similar solution for IE7, I'm all ears.

Hi Michael,

on one hand I totally agree with you. There are few posts\projects I wrote for this blog, but never published them because I think they are too dangerous.

On the other hand, I am really disappointed by fact that there is really no easy way how to work with UAC if you

a.) like to use desktop as kind of dashboard (one window maximized, rest in tray, if you don't need something, close it immediately and open it when needed)

b.) are administrator\consultant and need to run tools like MMC all the time

c.) prefer keyboard to mouse

Initial idea behind elevator was only to make it easier to create scheduled tasks automatically, however then I thought about adding it to all programs. Don't forget that this is not fully fledged application, but proof of concept.

If I would try to write full application, it would rather allow programs based on hashes or similar rules.

I am gathering feedback on it right now, most people find it very interesting and user friendly. As I said it is only POC and is not used broadly, and without huge user base there is almost no risk of viruses spreading using this technique. If I will see that more people are using it, I would create much more secure version and remove this.

As I said before, I totally agree with you - difference is that for me this approach is only POC, you see it as application for end users.

This is worse than turning off UAC all together. if any other program uses ElevatorRunner, it can bypass UAC, but you will still think, incorrectly, that you have some level of security added by UAC.

In addition to creating a huge security hole, it doesn't add functionality. You can use task scheduler to create a task that runs a specific program with highest privelages, then create a shortcut to run it. With this method you are limiting the Highest privelages to that specific program; with your program any program that wants to can have highest privelages.

Overall i would say that this is a program that shouldn't be installed by anyone.

Hi Susan,

don't get me wrong - I am not angry at msmvps (how could I, I always thought of it as someones favor to me, not vice versa), I was thinking about moving to Blogger for longer time. In fact I realized that msmvps is offline when I wanted to post blog entry about changing my blog address ;) I am sure it looks like that downtime is reason why I am leaving msmvps, but it was not.

I must definitely say that I really appreciate what you are doing for MVPs all around the world and I really enjoyed blogging here.

However as you said it is not a business - and that is why I would like to try provider that takes blog platform as business and his revenue is tied up with availability and attractiveness of his platform.

Martin, there is a listserve for all the bloggers and I was giving daily reports of what happened.

I apologize it took so long to get back but I was wanting to ensure that Microsoft PSS was given full ability to get log files off the box to investigate.

I plan to upgrade to CS 2008 shortly.

I apologize if the blog site isn't up to your needs, but unfortuntely this isn't a business, and I have a day job.
