I am having problems too with robocopy not copying permissions in Windows 2008 server, it just randomly does not copy permissions and leaves the folders with default permissions. anyone found a solution to it yet ?

I didn't use your program since what I was trying for seemed slightly different and I'm stubborn like that, but I wanted to thank you very much for the idea.

I'm on a College network and they require a program running for computers on the network (Cisco's Clean Access Agent). Because of UAC, I was having to click through a few prompts and re-input my logon information everytime my computer started, which was very annoying.

Task Scheduler solved the problem, though! It wasn't as easy as running it on Computer Start or user logon, unfortunately, but having the event trigger when I connect to the network worked perfectly.

Hi Stephen,

my best practise for using log together with robocopy is to use built-in variable %Random% to randomize log name:

Set LogName=Robocopy%Random%.log

Robocopy ... /LOG:C:\%LogName%

Optionally I use Type %LogName% >> Central.log afterwards...

I had one robocopy running in a dos schell with /log:c:\result.txt

I opened another shell and the 2nd robocopy would not accept the /LOG:c:\result2.txt

had error invalid parameter /LOG

so I created a c:\temp directory and repeated the robocopy with /LOG:c:\temp\result2

this time the robocopy completed.

Firstly, not checking every file for pure security alterations makes the replication work more quickly. Secondly, Allen argues that most companies are happy with directory level security, and that setting file by file permissions is the kind of fiddly nitpicking most people won't bother with.

Finally, if you do want to replicate on this basis, you can use a chain of commands to ensure that all files altered with security do get changed as part of the replication process. The option is there if you really want it, but as a default behaviour, it wasn't necessary.

Nie je to uplne identicke - RichCopy je async copy, t.j. kopiruje cez viacero vlakien... Mne skor vadi, ze MS pridal RoboCopy do Windows, ale neopravili tam kopec chyb (a nejake nove pribudli) :(

program skoro k dokonalosti, tak ho zahodi a zacne znova neco noveho ;o((
