Reverting to Office 32 bits

A few days ago I’ve installed Office 2010 beta 64 bits. Unfortunately, it simply destroyed sync with my HTC Windows Mobile phone. After a tip from Caio, I reverted back to 32 bits version and yes, it works!

Sorry Microsoft, sync between Outlook and my Windows Mobile Phone is really important to me. I can’t really use the 64 bits version like you asked if you can’t give me sync between Outlook and my mobile phone….

If you’ve missed it, then don’t forget to check it online. It’s really a shame that most Portuguese people won’t ever watch this program (which is probably one of the first programs with real quality in Portugal) because they’re watching soap operas or some other low quality programs…

A few days ago, I’ve mentioned that bing isn’t working property. Interestingly, I’ve just noticed that if you run a search for ‘search’ in Google Portugal, you’ll get a reference for bing. Isn’t that ironic?

Jon Skeet is no longer an MVP

This is probably one of the biggest disappointments of the last MVP cycle. Known C# guru and author Jon Skeet is no longer an MVP because his employer (google) didn’t give him the OK for his renewal. Fortunately for us, he still can work with C# in his 20% time and will be blogging and working with C# in the near future.

I’m not anti-google in any way (in fact, I do love some of their products), but there really isn’t any good justification for this decision. Sad story, really…

Stop copying blank lines in VS

One of the things I end up doing sometimes in Visual Studio is copying blank lines. It’s not that I want to copy a blank line…it’s simply that I get interrupted while using ctrl+c/ctrl+v and end up messing things when I return to the desk. Since I’ve just ended up copying another blank line, I’ve lost a few seconds and opened the options window to see if I could control it from there. And yes, I can:

And there you go: no more blank line copying for me! (I’m blogging about this now because I’m currently using VS 2010 without resharper! If I had resharper, things would be much better :))

Quinta Jardim da Serra weekend

I’ve just returned from a really nice weekend on this lovely hotel. Bar services could be a little better and it’s not the easiest place to find, but the hotel is just great! Highly recommended if you’re looking for a nice place to say and relax for a couple of days. Here are some pics I’ve taken during my stay there. And now, it’s time to go back to vacations mode.

Getting ready for ASP.NET 4.0

This is a post for my Portuguese readers, so you might not want to waste your time with it if you can’t read portuguese:)

We’ve already got ASP.NET 4.0 beta 1 and I’ve (finally!) started looking at it. I’ve already read the white paper and I’ll be starting to write code on it real soon. As you probably know, I’ve written a couple of books on ASP.NET in the past and it’s time to start updating them.

Unfortunately, the previous releases are already huge. If I add more stuff to it, it will easily go over the 1000 pages mark and that means an increase in the final price of the book. So, I’m thinking that the best option is to work in a new book which will present only stuff that is being released in the next version of ASP.NET (and probably some stuff which didn’t got mentioned in the previous editions). This means that I can try to achieve the 200-300 pages mark, making the book cheaper.

There are advantages and disadvantages. Besides the price, you’d end up with a book which *only* talks about stuff which isn’t mentioned in the previous editions. This is great if you’ve already bought a previous edition and you intend to buy a book with the new stuff. However, it’s not a good option if you want a complete reference or if you’re starting to look at ASP.NET (in that case, you’d need to buy the 3.5 version + the new book on ASP.NET 4.0).

Currently, I’m inclined to write a shorter book on ASP.NET 4.0 only, but I’d like to think on what you guys think (especially if you intend to buy a Portuguese book on ASP.NET). Thanks for the feedback.
