Jon Skeet is no longer an MVP

Published Sat, Oct 3 2009 14:46

This is probably one of the biggest disappointments of the last MVP cycle. Known C# guru and author Jon Skeet is no longer an MVP because his employer (google) didn’t give him the OK for his renewal. Fortunately for us, he still can work with C# in his 20% time and will be blogging and working with C# in the near future.

I’m not anti-google in any way (in fact, I do love some of their products), but there really isn’t any good justification for this decision. Sad story, really…

Yesterday I read his article and I have to say, it really looks like a dictatorship... I just can't believe this: can this still be true it the 21st century? Censorship?, Pressure??...

One potential reason that was given was that MVP's get early access to new MS products and technology and that a google employee having access to this could be a potential legal problem if google brings out a competing product.

How exactly this is big disapointment? he continues blogging etc. So for non-mvp's nothing changes. Actually I did not even know he was mvp

The disappointment is on google and its behavior, of course. Yes, he continues blogging, but since he's not an mvp, he has just lost access to early NDA material and won't probably be able to discuss and influence the future of C# (as he would, if he still was an MVP).
