Sun Java™ Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 10

A menedzsment ismeretek elmélete 1899-ben született.

Firefox 2 Easter Egg

A fenevad
újjászületett, ereje megújult, és a
Mammon követői rémüldözve rogytak térdre előtte.

Mozilla könyve, 7:15"

If you type in about:mozilla in the Firefox address bar and hit enter, you will be surprised to see a mysterious verse from the Book of Mozilla.

Here’s what you will find:

And so at last the beast fell and the unbelievers rejoiced. But all was not lost, for from the ash rose a great bird. The bird gazed down upon the unbelievers and cast fire and thunder upon them. For the beast had been reborn with its strength renewed, and the followers of Mammon cowered in horror.

You Had Me At EHLO... : Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2007 mailbox migration

Migrating mailboxes from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange Server 2007 directly is not supported. Using native tools, administrators will have to perform this kind of migration as a two-step process which includes:

  1. Migrating from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003
  2. Migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007

vLite - Windows Vista configuration tool

nLite után ez is elkészül(t) .

New tool is called vLite, short for Vista Lite, and it's available now on the download page.
It's still early in development and if you don't test it first then maybe it's best to wait a final version.

Insecure.org's 2006 list of top 100 Network Testing Tools

Hasznos dolgok.

The 2006 edition of this list is available at the following site:

http://sectools.org/

QUOTE: After the tremendously successful 2000 and 2003 security tools surveys, Insecure.Org is delighted to release this 2006 survey. I (Fyodor) asked users from the nmap-hackers mailing list to share their favorite tools, and 3,243 people responded. This allowed me to expand the list to 100 tools, and even subdivide them into categories. Anyone in the security field would be well advised to go over the list and investigate tools they are unfamiliar with. I discovered several powerful new tools this way. I also point newbies to this site whenever they write me saying “I don't know where to start”.

Tasmanian devil

"Kedvenc" internetes portálom másod/harmad/n-edkézből ad közzé a szokott módon bulvárosítva hírt a régóta veszélyeztetett fajról. Rögtön a lili-lulu-lóló rovatában.

Íme a lelőhely, Parks & Wildlife Service TASMANIA:

Devil Disease: A devastating disease is sweeping through Tasmania's devil population, killing more than 90% of adults in high density areas and 40-50% in medium-low density areas. See the Department of Primary Industries and Water's web pages for details.

The eerie call of the Tasmanian devil
is a sound you will never forget!

Tasmanian devil

The Tasmanian devil cannot be mistaken for any other marsupial. Its spine-chilling screeches, black colour, and reputed bad-temper, led the early European settlers to call it The Devil. Although only the size of a small dog, it can sound and look incredibly fierce.

Take a listen to the vocalisation of the devil and you will see what we mean!

Description
Click upon the movie to view (4.2Mb)

The world's largest surviving carnivorous marsupial, the devil has a thick-set, squat build, with a relatively large, broad head and short, thick tail. The fur is mostly or wholly black, but white markings often occur on the rump and chest. Body size also varies greatly, depending on the diet and habitat. Adult males are usually larger than adult females. Large males weigh up to 12 kg, and stand about 30 cm high at the shoulder.

How many Microsofties does it take to implement the Off menu?

The Moishe Lettvin, who spent a year working on the menu I criticized yesterday: “So that nets us a conservative estimate of 24 people involved in this feature.”

Every piece of evidence I've heard from developers inside Microsoft supports my theory that the company has become completely tangled up in bureaucracy, layers of management, meetings ad infinitum, and overstaffing. The only way Microsoft has managed to hire so many people has been by lowering their hiring standards significantly. In the early nineties Microsoft looked at IBM, especially the bloated OS/2 team, as a case study of what not to do; somehow in the fifteen year period from 1991 - 2006 they became the bloated monster that takes five years to ship an incoherent upgrade to their flagship product.

(Hungarian) The table of equivalents / replacements / analogs of Windows software in Linux. (Official site of the table

Az egyik legnagyobb nehézség a Windows-ról Linuxra való áttérés során az egymással összehasonlítható szoftverek ismeretének a hiánya.

Microsoft Best Practices Analyzer Tools

Vesd össze:

Susan Bradley megjegyzése:

Sometimes I think we get too caught up in "best practices" to remember that the folks that set "best practices" are sitting on a committee and not building and running servers for small businesses.

Egyébként Hanselmann ötlete jónak látszik.

It'd be nice if there was some project inside (or outside) Microsoft to unify all "Best Practices" knowledge under one tool. Perhaps one of these tools is the beginning of that?

Two years ago, Microsoft released the well-thought-of SQL Server Best Practices Analzyer, in June the BizTalk Server Best Practices Analyzer, and in July one for Exchange.

Now it looks like the "Best Practices Engine" is being abstract into this project at CodePlex called the Microsoft Best Practice Analyzer (BPA) and I think it's just a fantastic idea. It appears to be a clean up of the ASP.NET Analyzer from June.

...

I really hope that this is the beginning of an integration into an "Enterprise Application Best Practices Analyzer," perhaps headed up by the Patterns and Practices team? I'd like one tool I can point to a system and say "is this cool?"

Seems like "malware" may have a chance to exist under Windows Vista

Microsoft to give Vista kernel access to security firms - an interesting article that explains why Microsoft is going to publish new API to allow 3rd party security software to access the Vista kernel. This is a really amazing news, because once these gates will be opened to 3rd party security software they can be (theoretically) used by malware to gain the access to kernel.

Happy Thankgiving

Én ugyan nem ünneplem a hálaadás napját (sőt ha jobban belegondolok, saját ünnepeim sem kötődnek semmilyen "hivatalos" ünnephez) , azért örülök, hogy számos szakmában saját hálákat rebegnek el emberek.

On this Thanksgiving day in the U.S., we reflect on the things for which we are thankful. In addition to appreciating my family and friends, there are also many things in the realm of heavy metal that I'm thankful for. I'm thankful that pioneers of the genre are still around making music. We can appreciate the past of artists like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne and Motorhead while still enjoying their current stuff.

Solution - Microsoft's AntiSpyware Tool Removes Internet Explorer (Fix for Spanish IE7 problem (WSUS))

Tegnap írtam erről a gondról, most itt van a megoldás Sandi értesítőjében - Bobbie Harder (PM, WSUS) postja alapján:

Bobbie Harder has posted to microsoft.public.windows.server.update_services advising that MS have confirmed the problem and have a fix, and advice for those affected.  You will need to access Bobbie's post using NNTP to access the batch file.

http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windows.server.update_services/browse_frm/thread/416dbe5eea65a2f1/a31aa73870520969#a31aa73870520969

Hi Folks -
We have verified a problem in the metadata for the latest  IE7.0 update
rollup package which impacts the installation behavior for all locales, and
results in an Spanish error dialog after installation as reported..

To immediately address the spread of this issue, the IE7.0 update package
has been expired effective 5:00PM PST, Wednesday, 11/22/06.  Synchronizing
WSUS servers after 5:00PM PST will ensure the expiration status is applied
to the latest IE7.0 update rollup package, released 11/21/06.

Clients which are currently displaying a Spanish error dialog, or are
rechecking for this update package, can be stopped from doing so via the
following steps:
If the update was approved for a scheduled installation:
1.       Stop the AU service.
2.       Kill the following processes -
a.       Iesetup.exe
b.      Ie7-WindowsXP-x86-esn.exe
3.       Start the AU service after you have synchronized the WSUS server to
expire the IE7 update.
4.       Run the command wuauclt.exe /detectnow.  We have to do this to
reset the IE 7 status on the client.  In my test, it offered the IE7 update
again, so it did not check back with the WSUS server where it had been
changed to detect only status.
.
If it is a manual kick off with the AU icon from systray, then clicking okay
to the error message, clears the IE setup executables, so we can just do the
following -
1.       Stop the AU service
2.       Start the AU service after you have synchronized the WSUS server to
expire the IE7 update.
3.       Run the command wuauclt.exe /detectnow.  We have to do this to
reset the IE 7 status on the client.  In my test, it offered the IE7 update
again, so it did not check back with the WSUS server where it had been
changed to detect only status.

If other updates were installed at the same time, a reboot will be required
to finish off the updates that did install for both scenarios above.

Attached is a sample batch file Before running a similar batch file you will
have had to either synchronize to ensure the update is expired , or have had
changed the update approval  to Not Approved or Dectect Only.  The batch
file sample can be run on the client system either from a logon script or
running it manually on the client.
A new update rollup package for this IE 7.0 release will be available for
synchronization early next week.  We regret the inconvenience and confusion
this issue may have caused WSUS customers.  Thank you for your reports and
enabling us to get this issue headed off so quickly.

- Bobbie Harder

You must install SP2 of SQL 2005 Express on Windows Vista RTM

Ugyan mi a retket vizsgálódtunk (béta tesztelők) néhány tízezren? Az újdonság varázsát, a hardware birkózást? A kontinuitás smafu?

If like me, you might have ignored the "compatibility" warning message when installing SQL 2005 Express SP1 on pre RTM builds of Vista. It would still install and for messing around/testing it didn't seem to make too much difference.

Well with the RTM build of Windows Vista installing SQL Express 2005 SP1 will now fail midway so you must install SQL Server 2005 Express SP2 – currently available as a CTP build from http://www.microsoft.com/sql/ctp.mspx

I'm assuming the same will be true on the SQL Server Developer Edition...

BBspot - Microsoft's AntiSpyware Tool Removes Internet Explorer

A www.technetklub.hu  levlistán is említették.

Many Microsoft Windows users who downloaded the recently released AntiSpyware program from Microsoft, or had it installed through an automatic Windows update, woke up to a surprise. Unintentionally, the heuristics of the software detected Internet Explorer as spyware, and removed the program from their systems.

<picture>Microsoft has pulled the program from its website until the problem can be corrected. Elias Weatherbee, a Microsoft representative, said the program was "only in beta" and that "a fix was forthcoming."

"It shows how powerful our AntiSpyware program is," said Weatherbee. "Not only is it able to remove spyware from the system, but also the source of most spyware. Our competitors can't match that."
