Finding Your Way With Vista and Pharos

A few years ago I purchased MS Streets and Trips 2005.  It came with a Pharos i360 GPS receiver.  I have had a ball with this product.  Since I travel a lot, it has helped me get from place to place quite easily with its integration into MS Streets and Trips.

Since I got it, I have upgraded the software  MapPoint 2006 and recently to the RTM of Vista.  With the Vista upgrade I could not get the reciever to be seen.  Today I finally went out to Pharos site.  I downloaded the USB drivers to reinstall.  This did not work.

Thanks to a support technician, he directed me to the 64-bit drivers.  I mentioned that I am only running on a 32-bit machine.  He did not think it would make a difference since he has had it work for others.  I'm set to confirm that it works and it even seems even more responsive when first plugged.

If you have this combination, give the site a try for the downloads.

I'd love to get either my gps-360 or the gps-500 to work with Vista - your link above no longer seems to work. Has Pharos taken this link down? No mention of Vista on the Pharos website at all. Microsoft says S&T 2007 is Vista compatible, but the new Pharos GPS receiver that comes with it is NOT.

Try this link out download.pharosgps.com/.../free_download.htm.  I do not know if it let's you choose the 64-bit option or not.

That link doesn't list Vista.  Anyone know where to get the drivers for the 64bit version?  Would really like to know!

Fought with my GPS-500 for a while and went back and forth with the tech support at Pharos and here's what finally worked: 1) Disabled Integrity Checks by using bcdedit.exe (Start > Run > cmd > bcdedit.exe /set nointegritychecks ON 2) Reboot so that the new setting will take effect 3) Install the PL-2303 USB driver found at http://download.pharosgps.com/download/drivers.htm. It says it's for the GPS-360 but it's apparently for both models according to Pharos. This worked for me on my Vista 32bit Home Premium version. Good luck!

According to streetsandtrips.spaces.live.com/.../cns!FDEF586E035CD203!322.entry the Vista 64-bit driver is available on Windows Update

Vista x64 found the drivers for me as mentioned here, and Streets and Trips tells me on COM4 there is a Microsoft GPS device running.  Great stuff huh??

The only problem is, I am not getting GPS activity in Streets and Trips, none what so ever.  I sat outside for an hour with my laptop and GPS hooked up, and yes all the right boxes are checked off.  Any suggestions out there on why I'm not getting GPS activity?

I had to do two items.  One make sure there are no conflicts in the Device Manager.  Second, I had to play with it choosing the right port.  After I got it to Port 7 (at least on my machine) it worked perfect once I started driving.

I have Pharos Pocket GPS Plus Navigator with a iGPS 280 receiver and Ostia Navigation software.  How do I get this run on Vista?
