&lt;p&gt;I&amp;#39;ve been running big batch jobs that take a week to run on a conventional server -- I could probably speed the job up 5 or 10 times on a single server, &amp;nbsp;but I&amp;#39;m expecting my data sets to grow rapidly.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The job is a great fit for the map/reduce paradigm. &amp;nbsp;A parallel version of the job that&amp;#39;s designed to eliminate non-sequential I/O could run quickly on a small cluster: &amp;nbsp;The job could be done for $10 or $20, &amp;nbsp;without tying up any of my machines that are doing other work.&lt;/p&gt;
