It seems a little messy that this release is based on Beta 2 instead of RTM MSI 4.5. This seems like the kind of jump the gun release that InstallAware is known for.

Also, just where is the Stand Alone Build?

It's a nice article, but from a strict newbie perspective I think it could do a better job of touching on InstallScript CA's as an alternative to C++ CA's in the context of Basic MSI projects. This technique maintains the pure goodness of MSI without needing setup.exe or an external UI handler ala InstallScript MSI project.

I think this is important to understand.

Thanks for the tip Stefan! I'm not sure if it saved us money or cost us money since this promotion caused us to expand an existing purchase order in process to include the rest of our old licenses.

They have replaced the drive and are restoring the data. Apparently, this takes much longer than expected. I don't know why. I keep calling the hotline but they can't give an estimate how long it will take.

All of the good people associated with InstallShield (and InstallAnywhere, and FNP and AS) will benefit greatly from the focus they'll enjoy as a stand-alone software company. I can only imagine customers will enjoy the same benefits. I know four out of the five guys charged with sailing the new boat and they are all solid citizens. Now if they can only choose a different color for their logo background than black...

In my experience the RIF last summer would have been in preperation for the sale. Try to make the P&L look good. The question is how was the due dilligance from TCB? If they had a true and accurate picture, then it's grow the business from here. If not, there could be another RIF in order.

At least thats how it played out where I worked.

TCB also owns Manatron which happens to have purchased the group that I currently work for. I also have a lot of friends at Attachmate and NetIQ from my Continental days. Isn't it a small world?
