QANTAS: A Baggage Week

Published 5 November 7 4:26 AM | GregLow

I had hoped last week would be a better one with my QANTAS trips. With the flight from Melbourne to Brisbane, we had a delay in the check-in because the baggage conveyor had broken down. We ended up all just standing around staring at the check-in staff who didn't look pleased either.

However, the worst part was on the return from Brisbane to Melbourne. There's a flight every hour. Even though we landed at 8:15pm, the first bags came out onto the carousel at 9:15pm. The board was showing that the next flight had already landed. After we had stood there for half an hour, the flight number disappeared from our carousel. Everyone started wandering down through the airport trying to then find which one our flight had moved to. An announcement on the PA then told us to all go back to the one we were at, even though the flight number now shown on it was the one that landed at 9:15pm, not ours.

Apart from being horribly disorganised, getting the first bags off the flight an hour after we touch down is just very poor service. People were struggling to stand there and, given they also have no seats in the area, many had taken to sitting all around the floor and walls.
