Exchange 2007 storage: a Shortcut Guide and a spreadsheet

Authored by fellow MVP Jim Mcbee, The Shortcut Guide to Exchange Server 2007 Storage Systems, covers Exchange Server storage capacity requirement planning, the basics of using iSCSI SANs, and best practices for scalability and SAN operations.

The complete eBook has been released as a single PDF by RealTime Publishers. Chapters from this guide include:

  • Choosing an Exchange Server storage platform
  • Sizing the Exchange storage platform appropriately
  • Implementing an iSCSI storage system
  • Basic practices for implementing iSCSI storage

And since we are talking about storage planning, the Microsoft Exchange Team has released recently Exchange 2007 Mailbox Server Role Storage Requirements Calculator spreadsheet, version 11.2. For a list of the updates, read Updates to the Mailbox Server Role Storage Requirements Calculator.

As usual, the spreadsheet is in Excel 2007 file format. Unfortunately, for people like me who still have Office 2003, the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack won't work this time:

Microsoft is currently working to solve the problem.

I`m using Office 2003 and I can open the spreadsheet with the Microsoft Excel 2003 Analysis Toolpak (office.microsoft.com/.../HP011277241033.aspx)

Try out and blog the result OK!
