Update for Exchange Server 2003 SP2 (KB 924334)

Internet Explorer 7, which was released last week, can cause a little problem when used with Outlook Web Access (OWA). To resolve this issue, there's a new patch available to download for Exchange Server 2003 SP2.

"This update resolves an issue where the Outlook Web Access (OWA) form would stop responding when you compose a message using the S/MIME control on a client running Internet Explorer 7.0 and accessing a mail server running Exchange Server 2003."

Here are the links for the patch and for the corresponding KB article:

I know we'll never get an answer, but I always want to ask, "How did this not get found in testing?"

That patch has been out for ages - as the one for the eolas/active X issue makes my OWA/IE7 work just fine together.

If you are running OWA and you just installed IE7, you may need to ensure that you have this hotfix installed

The issue here is that the problem affects the users but the fix lies with the Exchange support team, and that means there could be a considerable delay before the patch gets dropped. Therefore this 'little problem' stops OWA working. For the user there's no work around. As Robert says "Why didn't this get picked up in testing?"

I'm not so sure the patch was ready for production... We've had problems with it for multiple clients that we're using S/MIME and had IE6. They get a blank message body in OWA after the patch is installed, and none of the usual fixes work to resolve it--but uninstalling the patch restores it!

Anyone else have this problem?
