Back from holidays;Greeted with bad and good emails;Storm Worm removal tools
Nice to be back from 3 days offline. There are good and bad emails awaiting for me.
Good emails from friends (thanks to friends for the greetings. I wish you all the same - a HAPPY New Year!) and from the Microsoft MVP Program:
Yay! This year is my 5th year (5th award) with the Microsoft MVP Program for Windows Security category. Thanks again MS, MVP Program, MVP Leads, MS Product groups, fellow MVPs and ALL friends!
Congratulations to NEW MVP awardees and to MVPs who got renewed!
Bad emails? Plenty.. spam and the non-stop email with links to download a storm worm infected file:
santawishes2008.com, parentscards.com, hohoho2008.com, hellosanta2008.com, happysantacards.com, postcards-2008.com, santapcards.com, merrychristmasdude.com
Be very careful guys. One of the readers asked what to do to remove Storm Worm. Below are some removal tools that you might want to use:
Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT) by Microsoft or go to http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx. If you visits Windows Update often, Microsoft will offer that and will scan your system. Or you can just download and run it manually.
Dr.Web CureIt! - http://download.drweb.com/drweb+antivirus+free+services/
I'm sure there are others but you might want to try the above first. You can also scan the system using Online Scanners like Housecall, ESET Online scanner, LiveOne Care online scanner etc.
You should also run rootkit scanners because this variants of Storm Worm adds rootkits! Go to http://antirootkit.com/software/index.htm to find the extensive list of rootkit scanners.
