Microsoft in global anti-phishing drive

Microsoft has announced a Global Phishing Enforcement Initiative (GPEI), planning over 100 legal actions against alleged phishers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) by the end of June 2006.  Microsoft will work with police, governments, and industry in the EMEA region to educate users, prosecute phishers, and identify possible technological solutions.  Microsoft has already filed 53 lawsuits in Austria, Egypt, France, Morocco, Spain, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.  According to a Sophos online poll, 22% of users receive at least five phishing e-mails a day.  Microsoft EMEA president Neil Holloway announced the initiative at a European Internet Services Providers Association (EuroISPA) conference in Brussels cosponsored by Interpol.
