My First Blog!

Welcome to my place on the web, thank-you for stopping by. This is my first attempt at a blog, so please bear with me as I learn blogging, and hopefully you will learn something too, as I struggle along trying to give you information about securing your computer.

First I should introduce myself. My name is Dorothy Gosling and I am a Microsoft MVP for Windows Security, having received the award in July 2005 for my volunteer work in several antispyware forums.  I have been volunteering since 2003, after my computer became infected with Spyware and I had to reach out for help to get rid of it.  After receiving help in the forums at http://forums.tomcoyote.org  I decided to join their classroom, to learn how to help others get rid of the nasties, they had the misfortune to acquire, on the Internet.  I am now an Administrator in the Tom Coyote Forums, while continuing to help others, with their computer problems.  I hold varying different titles at other antispyware forums, all under the nickname of 'dgosling'. This blog is my latest attempt to reach out to the Home User with information about how to set their computer up securely.

Many Home Users' do not realize what nasty things exist on the Internet.  They can very easily become victim to Adware,(not to be confused with the program Ad-Aware by Lavasoft), Spyware, Malware, Phishing Schemes and ID Theft, if surfing the internet on an unprotected computer.

However, there are things the average Home User can do to protect themselves from the nasties, without great expense.  Knowledge is power, and never more true than in PC Security.

While I learn blogging, I will be presenting you with articles and tutorials, links to other security blogs and websites that I think may help you in your quest to lock-down your PC. You use any information found here at your own risk.
