Hi,

just wanted to report that maxxbass is not limited to wmp, you can also use it in winamp if you install the adaptx plugin that provides access to directx plugins for winamp.

I use maxxbass (very successfully) to improve the sound of two rather smallish bookshelf speakers. I recently gave my big tower speakers away to a friend and planned to build a subwoofer someday, but since I discovered maxxbass the urge to immediatly do something about my sound went away. I can live suprisingly well with this setup at the moment, and I listen to bass-heavy music (reggae, d'n'b, hiphop) all the time!

MaxxPlayer is trickle down technology from the professional audio industry. Waves make the Rolls-Royce of personal computer DSP processing (Waves Diamond Bundle, many 1000s of dollars/pounds) used in the post-production and recording areas and their plug-ins called MaxxBass and Renaissance Bass have used their 'missing fundamental' process for several years. I have used both of these when recording in a professional studio with the same startling effect that is reported in this thread so can testify that the product works and is not a gimmick. No, I do not work for Waves and I would dearly love them to reduce the prices of their professional products (I expect their sales would more than make up for the difference) so I could use them in my project recording studio but I wanted to reassure those who think this might be just another marketing exercise that the process provides a genuinely noticeable improvement of the bass in a track, if used in moderation.

WELL FRANKLY I DO AGREE WITH YOU THAT WINDOWS MEDIA WOW EFFECTS REALLY SUCKS BUT TWO OF THE DSPS I HAVE USED OVER THE TIME AND FOUND QUITE A DIFFERENCE WITH MY 6 SPEAKERS AND 2 WOOFERS (I HAVE DIFFERENT BRANDS OF SPEAKERS INCLUDING SONY SO WHEN I AM LISTENING AT 3 AM I JUST SHUTDOWN MOST OF THE SPEAKERS KEEPING 1/2 ON SO THAT DOES THE TRICK AND WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER ALSO HAS A QUIET MODE WHICH YOU CAN TRY OUT) ARE -
1)DFX 7.2 FOR WMP 10 WITH MULTI PRESETS INCLUDING HIGH VOLUME MP3 PROCESSING,DYNAMIC BOOST,3D SURROUND,HYPER BASS ETC.
2) CIRCLE SOUND II V1.4 5.1 SURROUND FROM SRS LABS

I AM YET TO TRY MAXX PLAYER - LOOKS LIKE GOOD

Amazing. This plug-in makes is possible to actually listen to music on my notebook PC even with its crappy built in speakers. It is even better with a decent set of speakers connected to it!

The delay in processing of the audio is related to buffer length windows media sends to the maxxplayer ( or any ) plug-in. We could not do anything on our part to make this shorter, this is controled by Microsoft.
