Our first hint was a few months ago in a job application where Microsoft stated they were working with European satellite TV providers . This just screamed Sky to me, and

re: Microsoft Finally Seeking to Globalize HDTV in Media Center

I think the worek is with Free Sat which launches later in the next 8 weeks in the U.K This is a collaboration between the BBC and ITV in the U.K and will break the strangle hold SKY have on HD in the U.K Already Blackgold have a combined DVB-S(2) and DVB-T combined card that nativly supports DVB-S The site says thay are working with MS. My prediction is Fiji will support H264 and also the ablility to combine two tuner types. This would enable this balckold card to get the SVBS2 HD and freeview

The picture quality is suburb, but I don't tend to use it because my (quite high-end) video hardware struggles to keep up and the storage space for the dvr-ms files is very significant. Nice to know the rest of the world is catching up though? Maybe one day we'll get a free EPG, the Zune and the iPhone as well.

That is what in my experience here in the Netherlands most MCE/VMC enthusiasts are waiting for. Channel support and HD support from cable suppliers is much better than the sole satellite provider here.

OK, there are also ways of getting DVB-C in Mediacenter, but official support of course would be MUCH better.

But if this doesn't come until Windows 7 then WMC might be doomed in Europe anyway. Too late, too late...
