Dell Drops Prices on CableCARD Tuners

A few weeks ago Dell ended their special pricing on Digital Cable Tuners, taking them from $180 for a single tuner to $255 for a single tuner.

That didn’t last for too long though.  Now Dell has lowered the price to $199 for a single tuner and $379 for dual tuners.  This move puts an entry level XPS 420 with a single CableCARD at $1,248 and dual CableCARD at $1,428.

There is still a bit of a price war going on between Dell and HP, but this move puts Dell back into the mix.  Dell is still the only top tier OEM offering PCs with dual CableCARD, an option that puts them on top of HP who only offers single tuner configurations.

Has anyone installed a ATI TV Wonder Digital Cable Tuner on a Niveus Media MCE? Does the ATI tuner come with the serial number to use during the tuner setup in MCE?

Niveus would not give me a straight answer.

Doesn't matter how much they say they will charge.  You aren't going to get them.  Its like a gian scam to get people to buy their computers.  I ordered a 420 with 2 tuners back in March.  After a little over a month they just up and canceled my tuner order.  I called and complained and they redid my order (of course I got put at the back of the queue).  Then today, less than a week later, I noticed that the replacement order of 2 tuners was canceled.  Today they told me that I couldn't buy them at all.  They also said that since they chose to split my single order into 2 parts and had shipped the computer more than 21 days ago I was just stuck with it even though they had no intention of selling me the tuners that were part of the order.  I've ended up having to sick AmEx on them even though I've tried to work with them because they won't sell me the tuners or refund the computer.

I ordered an XPS 420 with a single cablecard tuner on April 16th. They split the order and said the system would ship on 4/24 but the tuner wouldn't ship until 6/5. They actually shipped the system yesterday (4/21) and FedEx has it scheduled for delivery today. I was surprised to see today that the tuner actually shipped DHL from another location and is scheduled for delivery on 4/24.

I looked on the Dell site today and the CabelCard tuner is no longer listed as an option. There was a note that said; "The ATI TV Wonder™ Digital Cable Tuners ship seperately from your system. Warrantly provided by ATI."

I ordered on the 24th, (the day Dell put back the CableCard option.) Today I got the CableCard. So I guess there is availability!  Still waiting for the computer. The cableCard is the external model.

I ordered an XPS 420 with dual ATI tuners on 4/27.  Even with standard ground shipping, the computer itself arrived 3 days later.  I too was expecting a ridiculous delay on the tuners, but they arrived just 3 business days after that.  I guess I was just one of the lucky ones for a change....
