The knowledge base article itself was published on March. However there are two versions of the download:

WindowsMedia10-KB911565-x86-ENU.exe - which takes Media Player to v10.0.0.3990. I'm not sure of the exact release date but I downloaded it on the 27th March

WindowsMedia10-KB911565-v2-x86-ENU.exe - which takes Media Player to v10.0.0.4019 and was released on the 11th April

I guess Chris's news article was detailing the updated v2.00 download.
