Microsoft: Fix WMP Or Trash It!
It is becoming incredibly pathetic how Microsoft just doesn’t seem to care at all about some of their products. Not only was Windows Media Player 10 a huge disappointment for WMP users, MCE users are feeling it now. There are over 100+ bugs in Windows Media Player 10. Over 100 bugs people, 100. Why in the world was a product released as final with that many bugs? Microsoft just doesn’t care or something? Seems like that to me and countless others.
Microsoft’s Windows Media Player Newsgroup is crap because of a few issues. The first being they refuse to address a single issue. The second being, they refused to take any sort of feedback from their users and MVP’s when WMP 10 was in beta. The features they market as the big ones for WMP are completely and total failures. You can’t sync to “supported” portable devices correctly, the Media Library is nothing but near 50 reported bugs, never fixed. You can’t reliably play purchased tracks with protection without getting errors that Microsoft refused to address. Oh, a huge percent of the posts in the Newsgroup are the same questions over and over again. One would think Microsoft would see this was better their documentation, but no, they don’t care.
The FAQ is a good start to trying to help, except half of the issues that are posted about only cover 25% of the steps that need to be taken to fix the issue. One thing that I have been enjoying is seeing 15+ topics in the Newsgroups in the past week-and-half about iRiver products not working with WMP. In addition, I like how when I was an MVP they never addressed the fact that working players in WMP 9 and the 10 beta worked fine until WMP 10 final (ex. My H120). Never addressed it, I brought it up many times, they were “too busy” to worry about something like that. Also, that great Media Library that we all hate, there have been at least 5 different threads about it on The Green Button in the past 2 weeks and Mike replies to at least 10 posts a day in the Newsgroups about that failure. People, don’t count on this stuff getting fixed anytime soon, they just don’t care about you. Mike has gone to posting blank replies because the posters don't know how to read and post what's asked of them. All of this and Microsoft wonders why more people don't try and help in the WMP Newsgroups!
My personal advice to people would be not to use WMP unless you have too. Go find another program that fits your needs and that works! When and if Microsoft can figure out how to get their act together, come back, if you want to. I sure as hell would not still be using WMP if it was not for MCE, which forces you to use WMP. Use another player that works as advertised.
I would love to hear from smeone at Microsoft about some of this, but following my track-record with trying to help them with this type of thing I doubt that will happen.
