Welcome to the fold Dean - I can only reinforce what Dean has said here - work with people in an open and honest environment and you will succeed. Looking forward to reporting more back after the weekend.

Ok - At Stuart's suggestion, I hopped onto your blog! What a truly great idea! With this kind of synergy, you guys will soon be taking over the world! Best of luck (Hell, you don't need luck - just more success!)

Cheers - from Chicago!

OK - I'll play devil's advocate on this one . . . Sure, it may not be the checkboxes fault - but would it be that difficult to have it disabled by default on an SBS? I mean come on - the POP3 Service is disabled by default - so it's not like we're going to have users pop-ing / sending email via Exchange without a little extra configuration anyway . . . So an overwhelming majority of the time, it's just another setting we need to kill on a new SBS deployment. (and I don't know about you guys down under, but we don't have any users pop-ing their SBS (Hooray for OWA and/or RPC over HTTP in Outlook 2003 :^)

Dean have fun and perhaps float the idea of making it bigger, I think I can get my wife and two kids to come to a weekend retreat / SMBOZ event. I've blogged a couple of ideas on mine http://blogs.synergistic.com.au/david/archive/2004/10/23/151.aspx

Have fun this weekend, try not to let Wayne catch you unaware while doing silly feats of strength.

Guys, your willingness to help and share experience is giving me the confidence I need to move forward!

I plan on "Paying this forward", and as others move into more of a growth paradigm with their SBS consulting practices, I'll remember how great your support of me has been and will be, and will provide the same service to others!

Good on ya mates!!!

P.S. FLIES on a DINGO????

Hi Dean,
I use a similar device from apc http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=BIOPOD
and it does allow you to login to a domain.

Unfortunately, I am not aware of a mouse or kb that incorporated the apc biopod into their design.

This is because IE naturally determines whether a website is in the Intranet zone or not by looking for dots (periods) in the name. If it sees no dots, it's a local Intranet website because it's not discoverable or routable on the Internet.

If it has dots, then no matter where the site is located it's considered potentially not trusted, at least for automatic Windows Authentication.

Congrats, you figured out how to create an exception to the rule IE uses and it's a better solution than loosening up the security for one of the other zones.

Note though that if you used the unqualified name (http://companyweb) and not the FQDN from your Terminal Server you wouldn't have had your problem.

At least, that's the way things are supposed to work...

calvert said:

Thanks Tony,
Although I was browsing to "http://companyweb" and getting the prompt (being the home page set by SBS) so one would "assume" it should have worked straight off anyway, as there are no dots in the name.
One to add to the bag of tricks

Just setting up SBS2003 for the first time to do some exchange coding at home without having to do it live on a company's net and got hit with this one. MS server setups have come a long way but little things like this just kill yer spirit. :)

Thanks for posting, it was a big help.

I have had this scanner a few months now, and I am having nothing but problems. My scanner "times out" after 6-8 hrs and I have to restart or log off and on to get it to work again. I dont think this is a problem with the scanner itself, I'm thinking the problem is this digital persona password manager. I hope they get off thier butt and put out something other than 1.0 out .... soon.

Hey Dean,

I wouldn't recommend users depend on antivirus, now or in the future.

A very important line of defence is to install an anti-spyware product and keep it up to date

The Spyware Warrior web site hosts a comprehensive comparison of anti-spyware products which I think you will find very useful when deciding what product to use:
http://spywarewarrior.com/asw-features.htm

The end result of all this analysis is a list of “trustworthy” products:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#trustworthy">http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#trustworthy

Spywarewarrior also hosts a comprehensive list of rouge or suspect anti-spyware products (products that are of “unknown, questionable or dubious value”):
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

Randy Knobloch, Microsoft MVP (aka Siljaline), works hard to keep people informed about the latest updates for various anti-spyware products. Keep an eye on his site for downloads relevant to software you have installed. Randy's personal blog is at http://www.msmvps.com/siljaline/ and his info-posts can also be found at Security Tools Updates.

Dean - you are so right with this - it's the difference that we make in the world to the little fish that in the end helps them grow to bigger fish. Hopefully our throwing back of the little fish and their memory of that will make them not eat so many little fish when they grow up to be big fish. Hope that makes sense for you.

and

Leadership and Self Deception by The Arbinger Institute which is a great book to help those who can't seem to figure out why things just are working they way they see so clearly they should..

Dean,

I must admit that I have seen a very limited number of connection issues with RWW & MSTSC 6.0.

Perhaps one or two hiccups where I will be directed back to the list of servers or clients and then need to click again.

All of our servers and clients are running MSTSC 6.0 if that helps at all?

Thanks,

Philip
