You are correct -- there are two APIs now. The classic .NET Framework (version 4.5) and WinRT. Windows 8 supports both APIs and WindowsRT supports just the new WinRT framework.

Visual Studio 2012 supports both API and provides templates for both (although you need to be running with Windows 8 to see the WinRT templates.)

I'm totally confused. So there are two APIs, Metro and Classic. Are these APIs accessible for developers? That is: has Microsoft exposed the API so I can create Metro apps and Classic apps? I appreciate clarification and/or links to this.

For anyone who want to try the demo code but has installed vs2011 you will find that you need to made a copy of changes

This page will show you what

www.asp.net/.../mvc4-release-notes

For Vb readers this means you edit webconfig and add

to the <appSettings> section

and then in Windows Explorer edit the MVC3Golf.vbproj file

and update the assemblues section to include the version and PublicKeyToken as per the link.

Thanks. I'll be getting more Windows 8 material done soon.

I use Camtasia Studio 8 from Techsmith.com to capture the screen and do the production. I publish the videos with the highest quality they provide. This makes the file sizes larger but I think the quality is more important.

Thanks for another delightful tutorial. I am just getting my Win 8 environment set up and can hardly wait to try out the code you supplied with the tutorial. One minor question: I really like the format of the slides you are displaying. What software package are you using to create them. They look quite spiffy!

Bill, this is the best and detailed tutorial in Silverlight I have ever watched. It's really hard to find a tutorial in VB. I finally found it. Thanks a lot.

It will be wonderful if you'd cover foreign key (user selected value from dropdownlist) and backend update (to trigger other files updating in MVVM) in the future.

I'm doing your tutorial with C# and my own sql server db. Unfortunately things progress GREAT right up until I F5 the project and I get a null reference exception for the context when I try to do context.GetSchoolListQuery(). PLEASE help me out with this? I don't know what to search for to make this work, nor can I ram it down VS/RIA Service throat TO make it work. I'm tired and no amount of coffee is helping me get THROUGH this barrier.
