Visual Studio 2010 got a new logo – you like?

Not so long ago we saw a new logo revealed for the Microsoft .Net framework – the “Wave” logo was widely received as being a huge improvement and many loved it.

Just around the corner comes a new version of Visual Studio – 2010 which promises to be the next best thing after sliced bread (that’s my personal opinion btw).

One of the small (and in all honesty, insignificant really) news is that there’s a new logo.

“Infinitely” nicer than the old one, yet still carrying the basic shape with it that we saw in previous Visual Studio versions.

As i mentioned, it still has the same basic shape – very similar to the “Inifinite” sign – word play/picture play anyone?

It has the same flowy design and colours we saw in the Microsoft .Net logo, yet the colour is a bit different.

Question now is (and yes i know, it’s not that important), do you like the modern look?

Yay or Nay?

The awesome part of VS 2010 is that it’s now REALLY easy to find extensions for it – just go to Tools –> Extension Manager –> Online Gallery. Seriously, how cool is that!

Australia’s very own Visual Studio Tools Product Manager is blogging – Welcome Joerg Lindner

So this is how we put Australia on the developer tools map!!

Joerg Lindner, who recently joined us from Germany, is blogging – yeps, Australia’s very own Visual Studio Tools Product Manager is blogging.

Needless to say, it’s coming on a good time, with Visual Studio 2010 just around the corner.

I think this space needs monitoring because i’m certain there’ll be plenty of content coming out of this area in the very, very near future!

So stay tuned, subscribe to his blog (even if he only just put up the mandatory “I’m alive!!!” post, and i’m jumping the gun by spilling the beans early).

I think it’s safe to say that Visual Studio 2010 is one of the hottest topics in the industry today so it’ll be good to see what’ll be revealed to us here in Australia!

Matt Nunn is a Group Product Manager for Visual Studio Team System and has been with Microsoft for just over 6 years. He currently runs the team responsible for all outbound product management for Visual Studio Team System working with customers, partners and the field. Previously Matt ran product management for the VSTS Database Edition and has worked in both the SQL Server and Microsoft Office Teams within Microsoft. Matt has over 15 years experience in the IT industry working as a developer, DBA, technical project manager and consultant for numerous Microsoft partners as well as many positions within Microsoft. What i'm particularly happy about is that the trend seems to be showing that MSFT is putting more interest into the Australian developers! Visual Studio Team System 2010 CTP Released - CTP Downloads unavailable

As many may be aware of (you should anyways) then Rosario has been released for CTP over at Connect: https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/content/content.aspx?ContentID=9790

As a quick note - the CTP download site is currently offline due to an urgent update. The VSTS team is working hard on getting the CTP online again so we can have a play.

Othmane has promised to update that blog post as soon as the CTP goes online again! But, please be aware that this is CTP, not beta or RC releases. I would highly recommend running this in a virtual environment at least till it's out of CTP.

Visual Studio Team System 2010 has, from what i can see now, a lot more focus in and around testing and ALM (yay!!) tools - plus some very nice architecture features that will assist you with those big projects :)

I know i'm excited about this release - finally!! I love VSTS and can't wait to get my hands really dirty with this one. Now, if only we can be sure that these tools support 64-bit all the way through, then i'd be REALLY happy!

Update: Othmane's blog has been updated - the build is now staging through the Download centre and once it's propagated through the system then it'll be available for download again.

Excerpt from Othmane's blog:

Update(10/30/08 - 6:40pm PST): The CTP Download is currently being staged on the Download Center. It will take several hours before the staging phase completes so it might not be until Friday morning PST for the download to be live again. Unfortunately, we had to rebuild the packages which means that if you already downloaded some of the CTP parts, you will have to download the whole thing again. We are truly sorry about the inconvenience.

The good news is that we have reset the operating System expiration date so that activation prompts do not appear for the first 60 days (This was one of the issues we heard from some community members who got the CTP we originally posted).

Thank you for taking the time to evaluate the Visual Studio 2010 and .Net Framework 4.0 CTP and for your patience while we work on restoring the CTP on the download center. Teams are very excited about hearing your feedback on the new features you will be able to discover once you get the CTP. Please make sure to engage with the product teams on the CTP Feedback forums once you get it. I will post an update to this blog post once the Download link is live again.
