After a rough weekend and an even worse Monday and Tuesday, my wife took my youngest daughter to the doctor again today.
This time there was something "nearly" definite - but yet not quite completely certain.
Pneumonia was the proposed diagnosis..or rather he wanted to start her on a preventative treatment in case it flared into a full blown case.
After looking things over from the immunisation jabs she got Friday, it is most definitely not one of the symptoms we can expect.
Well, better that some treatment starts before something more serious flares up.
It does bring something to my attention though, the australian healthcare system needs a serious boost. The nurses are constantly complaining and hospitals are always reporting that they are understaffed.
But we have an abundance of GPs down here..so what's the good if all they can say is "viral infection" if you aren't bleeding from all orifices?
In three cases i've brought my youngest daughter to the doctor myself because my wife's been too ill to go as well, and the GP has in some cases not even bothered to leave his comfy chair behind his desk to examine the child. This is particularly true of the after-hours doctor we have in this area.
I might be disillusioned by the title, but IMHO a doctor should know his stuff if he's going to charge for the service - hell that goes for ALL professionals - yet doctors are more concerned with being sued than actually putting a diagnosis on the table...
My wife's feeling ill as well now - probably due to being exhausted to the extreme but she's holding up just great and i know it's getting hard on her. I just wish there was more i could do to help. Afterall, she does take the nightshift and has 90% of the time when things are rough with the little ones.
