Nick Randolph's .NET Travels : The Skype Challenge
Nick is a stingy bugger for sure..he hehehe...just said that because i know the pingback will show him the first couple of sentences from this post.
What he's doing is actually brilliant - i mean, who actually needs a landline these days? i certainly dont need it for anything other than ADSL..so why do we have 2 lines at home? Well, the 2nd line is tax deductible against the business, that's why..and it's easier just to take the whole amount isntead of finding out what's for personal use and what's for professional use.
The skype challenge is simple..
- To go an entire month without using either a landline or a mobile phone to make or receive phone calls.
- You have to make all calls via Skype
- You can't accept calls, unless they come via Skype
- You can't send/receive SMS, unless they go through Skype
I don't personally use my landline for calls, seeing as my mobile phone plan has a $550 credit cap (i've never gotten close to it to be honest) per month..so i tend to use my mobile more than my landline. But he does say not to use mobiles..hmmm..that'll be a bummer for me because that's generally my main contact.
Perhaps i'll try to join him on this test - except for one thing which he mentions..and that's the IINet part...i'd never EVER go with IINet again...had enough trouble with them when i was on dialup. I'm sure they've evolved into something decent but the bad taste in my from having a 2nd level support engineer tell me to format my system because tcp/ip was down still lingers after all these years. especially since it was fixed by re-installing the tcp/ip protocol.
Anyways, it'll be interesting to see how Nick works this..i'll definitely keep a close eye out for news on his blog (sif i don't do that already!!!).
Good luck Nick...
