I dont sell my clients OEM Office and then go back 2 months later and sell them SA...

I sell it as a complete solution and buy it all at the same time...

And OEM is great for one reason.... it's a lot cheaper than Open... I dont want my clients to pay any more than they have to for microsoft most expensive product...

Whenever I sell SME clients complete solutions (new server, new PC's, etc)... the killer part of any quote is Office... EVERY time... and to really kill the whole thing off... just add SA to the pot...

At least OEM with SA lets me soften the blow a bit...

Mark.

re: How do you buy CALs?

Thanks for the great info, Susan, you're a gem!

I've heard mixed reports on getting license keys by paper, email, or disk, including that SBS is different than other products which can be emailed. It's like the vendors aren't even totally sure.

My order this week was snailmailed paper keys. (..Which would have been nice to have right away by email -- 13 users on the first 5 CALs causes "Access Denied" issues pretty fast. Yes, the client guessed at their SBS setup. Ugh, cleanup crew stinks!)

Now I just need to fix my (already activated!) Device-CALs-which-should-be-User-CALs problem (mistake courtesy of a middleman; hence my research on how to DO IT MYSELF in the future).

re: How do you buy CALs?

Mark - you can but there is a time limit for doing so. In order switch to SA it pretty much has to be a mistake that your ordered the OEM the time frame is so short.

Microsoft should do away with OEM period. This would make licensing so much less confusing for everyone.

OEM and SA

Hi susan...

Are you aware that OEM Office can have SA added to it? This is by *FAR* the most cost effective way to get clients onto SA.... new PC's... OEM Office... and the SA for Office added to the OEM....

And then... are you aware you can do the same with SBS? You can buy OEM SBS2003... and then add SA to it.... again... pretty cost effective...

You can in fact do this for most MS products... I have a document on the subject somewhere but recently spoke to the UK MS Licensing manager and she confirmed that my information was correct...

Mark.
