ESET NOD32 Home and business editions DO NOT have a f/w...Smart Security DOES. Get the home or biz. I prefer Zone Alarm and it works well with Windows f/w or ZA with no problems.

Makes AVG even a better option, since their consumer, personal use version is free. I do like Kaspersky as well, but noticed more overhead last time I've used it. No experience with NOD32, but have heard good things about it from other techs.

Like DCMonkey said... Make sure you have "ESET NOD32 Antivirus Home" (www.eset.com/.../nod32.php) and NOT "ESET® Smart Security" which is the suite with Firewall, SPAM filtering etc.

"ESET NOD32 Antivirus Home" Is JUST the virus scanner similar to the Business edition you might be familiar with.

The next version of SBS is 64 bit only and does not include an ISA 200x firewall option so this feature may become relevant shortly.

But are these the personal/consumer versions you guys are referring to? I here a lot of these suggestions, but I think many of you are still referring to the server/client bundles.

I'm talking about the standalone consumer version.

I'll throw my vote in for CA eTrust ITM too. It's much lighter than Norton or Trend, has the standard corporate features (grabs settings from a central check-in server, pulls updates from a central server, etc). Plus the scans and updates can be relatively easily called from command-line, which makes scripting installs, scans or updates much less of a chore. Built-in remote push install to a network is a bonus too.

Amen Sister!!! We've been saying that for some time now. One of the big reasons we're not deploying Trend Micro as much as we were in the past is because of their insistence on having their own firewall installed...(CA is not an option as I believe that Satan himself runs that place :-) )

Kaspersky allows you to choose whether or not to install the firewall, and it's a constant winner in the VB100 Lists

Are you sure you mean NOD32 or are you referring to Eset's Smart Security suite?

I use NOD32 at home precisely because it isn't part of a "security suite" and has proven to have minimal to no impact on my system's performance and stability. I'm running it along side the Windows Vista firewall with no complaints from me or the software.

Likewise Kaspersky AV (not the Internet Security product): it does offer an Web AV module but this does not have to be installed.

AVG works well, and does not require their firewall. I am still looking for a third party fw that works well in xp at the right price for SMB, XP is more open than I prefer.

yes I will vote for / recommend CA etrust.

You can still buy just CA AV or Integrated Threat Management which includes AV andPest Patrol.

Very compeitive pricing too for 3 yrs updates.

Bestthing is servers are counted the same as PC's for licencing costs.
