R2 and migration paths
While Essentials R2 RTM'd along with the rest of the R2 stuff, none of us will get access to R2 code until October. Well... unless you plan to visit bittorrent sites that is.
But what you can do is look at the migration path from SBS and prior versions.
Migrate from Previous Versions to Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials:
If you are migrating from a version that isn't specifically laid out in the official migration path, one thing you can do Is grab a copy of SBS 2011 as that source server code on THAT server will work to prep a box for migration as well. Little trick I wasn't aware of when trying to migrate from Windows 2003 into the Essentials 2012 code. While Essentials doesn't see plain Server 2003 as an official migration path, SBS 2011 standard does and it's prep tool will work to prep the Windows Server to get ready to be migrated to 2012.
Another one of those ... file that away for future reference just in case...
