So what about this new shared folder dodad?
Did you know that the new thing in Remote Web Access is a Skydrive like interface that you can use to allow remote access to files?
File sharing is a key new component of the Remote Access Website. In SBS 2011 it will allow remote users to access files on SBS server shares. It will provide the following functionalities
· File browsing
· Basic file / folder operations such as rename, delete, upload, download, copy and cut operations
· Both a tree view control and a drag and drop option.
The folders have to be on the SBS box. Now how do they determine what will in this remote view?
Magic and pixie dust.
Okay ... so magic better known as WMI queries. It does a WMI query on the SBS server and looks for select * from win32_share. It then cuts down that list from shares that aren't blank or empty, is not a disk drive, doesn't end in $, it's a unique share name (not the normal stuff like NETLOGON or SYSVOL and all that. The Share directory must exist, must be on a NTFS volume and last but not least, access to the share volume cannot be denied.
To drag and drop files you have to install the easy file upload tool. This will allow you to upload files up to 2 gigs.
Of all the of RWW... 'cuse me RWA stuff we're used to over the years...this part is actually pretty cool.
