NNTP bridge client update
This weekend the MSAnswers forum migrated to a platform different from the platform running Technet and MSDN forums. If you find that you prefer viewing the forums in a nntp reader rather than the native forum interface you'll find after this weekend that you can't access the MSAnswers forum from the nntp client bridge that used to work before.
The nntp bridge is a .net client app that runs on your computer and allows you to use a nntp reader to access forums. To use it download both the MS answers nntp bridge AND the technet/msdn forum bridge client from https://connect.microsoft.com/MicrosoftForums/?wa=wsignin1.0
Then follow the instructions to enable the nntp bridge inside the forum properties - https://connect.microsoft.com/MicrosoftForums/content/content.aspx?ContentID=13820
Then set up your nntp reader client and in the case of Thunderbird, set up one nntp account with the server address of 127.0.0.1 with a port of 119 for the technet/msdn forum access and then set up the second nntp account with the server address of localhost with a port of 120 for the msanswers forum access.
So why do I like seeing the forums in both a forum interface as well as via nntp? For one I find that I can see bigger picture of trending issues in a nntp interface than one can in the forum interface. The view via the nntp client is more big picture. The view in the forum is smaller view/day impacts.
So there you have it. Two nntp bridge clients on Thunderbird to access web forums.
Soon the SBS forum will be opening up. I'll blog when it does.
