The following "hot topics" were posted and resolved during the month of September in Office and Messaging client:

<Issue 1>

Product: Office Outlook 2007

Issue Description:

------------------------------

Starting Outlook on a Windows 7 client.

"Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook Window"

Cause:

------------------------------

Corrupted Outlook Navigation Pane for the current profile

Resolution:

------------------------------

1. Click Start and then Run.

2. Type in "Outlook.exe /resetnavpane" without quotations. Press Enter.

<Issue 2>

Product: Office Outlook 2007

 

Issue Description:

------------------------------

"Delay Delivery" function doesn't work when Outlook is closed.

 

Cause:

------------------------------

This behavior may occur if the following conditions are true:

 

•             Outlook is running in Cached Exchange Mode.

•             Outlook is not running at the scheduled time of the deferred delivery

 

When Outlook is running in Cached Exchange Mode, it uses a local offline folder file (.ost). This file is periodically synchronized with the server. When you enable the Do not deliver before option to defer the delivery of a message, the message is deferred to the local Outbox, not to the server. Therefore, the message will not be delivered from the local .ost file unless Outlook is running when the message is scheduled to be delivered. This behavior does not occur in when Outlook is running in online mode.

 

Resolution:

To work around this behavior, enable the Do not deliver before option to defer delivery of the message when Outlook is running in online mode

<Issue 3>

Product: Office Outlook 2003

 

Issue Description:

------------------------------

After adding an additional mailbox to Outlook 2007 profile, user's email folder will not be updated automatically. Only the Send/Revive this folder option can update the folder.  This issue doesn't occur on small shared mailbox, or under Outlook 2003.

Cause:

----------------------------------

Outlook 2007 will sync additional Mailbox to a OST file, if the Additional Mailbox has more than 500 folders in it, it will opened too many MAPI sessions than Exchange server expected. Event 9646 will be logged on the Exchange sever.

Resolution:

---------------------------------

Uncheck the "Download shared folders (excludes mail folders)" option under Outlook Tools, Options, Account Settings, Change Exchange Properties, More Settings, Advanced tab.

If you have multiple clients, GPO could be a better idea. The outlook12.adm contains a policy of this setting

Product: Office Outlook 2007

 

Issue Description:

How to view multiple calendars in one view

Resolution:

---------------------------------

Outlook Calendar has "Side by Side Mode" and "Overlay Mode". "Overlay Mode" can do this:

1. Open Outlook, click Calendar and then select all the calendars you would like to view.

2. Click View menu, and then select "View in Overlay Mode"

Note: We can click "View in Side by Side Mode" to switch back.

 

<Issue 5>

Product: Office Excel 2007

 

Issue description:

Excel 2007 will always print 10 copies although the 'copies' field in Printer Settings shows '1' copy.

Cause:

-----------------------

Wrong printer settings

Resolution:

----------------------

1. Please open Excel 2007.

2. Click Office button and click Print.

3. Please be sure the number of copies is 1.

4. Please click "Properties" and click Advanced tab.

5. Expand "Paper/Output" and check whether "copy Count" is set as 10 or not.

6. If so, please change it back to 1.

<Issue 6>

Product: Office Excel 2007

Issue Description:

When trying to edit Excel 2003 file in Excel 2007compatibility mode, it takes 5 minutes to save.

Cause:

------------------------------

Third party add-in

Resolution:

------------------------------

First run Excel safe mode to check the issue. Then disable the installed add-ins:

1. Start Excel in normal Mode

2. Click the Office icon > Excel Options.

3. Click Addins. In the 'manage' field, choose 'Excel add-ins', click Go. Uncheck all the checked add-ins in the Add-ins available list box

4. In the 'manage' field, choose 'COM add-ins', click Go. Uncheck all the checked add-ins in the Add-ins available list box

5. Click OK
