Forgive me Father for I have sinned

Forgive me Father for I have sinned.  I have a HP server that had an Unknown !(bang)  in the drivers section that was related to an ACPI\HPI0002\  It annoyed me, but I couldn't find the driver on the HP web site.

Tonight I did.... well kinda found it.. but certainly not on the HP web site.

Yes Father, forgive me.  I downloaded a zip file from an unknown location and installed it so that my "!" would go away.

Not the poster child of safe computing I know.

Does it help if I opened it up in Ubuntu first and examined it?

Thank you.  Has been a source of frustration for over 12 months.

This is a custom firmware extension that name brands can put on their motherboards.

It's not really used for anything special, mostly just for identification.  However, your power management features probably won't work without having the driver loaded (usually Windows won't enable power management unless ALL drivers are loaded).

Anyone that's ever set up an ASUS motherboard and had to get get one of those ATK drivers knows all about these.

Considering that you downloaded that zip from another MVPs website (mine) I figured you would have at least had a little bit of faith :)
