Bummer. But it looks like similar cut backs are occuring in even the larger venues. Teched has dropped their attendees party and word is now that they also dropped onsite exams. The joke is rental fees will be required for the use of chairs, water bottles and the TechEd bag will be a Walmart bag next.
So with so much online and virtual, when even the TechEd folks are telling the Press and PR folks that it's no longer needed for them to be in attendance, are those hallway discussions the gold of the conferences? Or are social media platforms from Facebook and twitter (and the economy) putting a crimp in Conferences the way the Internet has impacted news media?
So is virtual the same as real? I don't think so, but understandably in this economy hard decisions have to be made.
