Bummer.  But it looks like similar cut backs are occuring in even the larger venues.  Teched has dropped their attendees party and word is now that they also dropped onsite exams.  The joke is rental fees will be required for the use of chairs, water bottles and the TechEd bag will be a Walmart bag next.

So with so much online and virtual, when even the TechEd folks are telling the Press and PR folks that it's no longer needed for them to be in attendance, are those hallway discussions the gold of the conferences?   Or are social media platforms from Facebook and twitter (and the economy) putting a crimp in Conferences the way the Internet has impacted news media?

So is virtual the same as real?  I don't think so, but understandably in this economy hard decisions have to be made.

When we had the SBS Show we would average 40,000 to 50,000 downloads within the month of publishing it. We would get a few hundred leads as a result of it. We would get a few dozen customers.

These days O** has a similar podcast, with far smaller audience and far fewer leads. However, we are getting tenfold new customers from it.

I firmly believe (and the reason I changed it into something new instead of the same ol') that people are seeking focused content these days. The basics, best practices and general discussion that targets the lowest common denominator is no longer in demand - because it is so readily available as a first or second hit on Google.

P.S. Sorry about being vague, I don't want to unleash the full power of Susan Bradley bandwidth on the stuff that comes out of my pocket :)

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out where the Spam Show Podcast is. www.ownwebnow.com/podcast.xml
