SQL 2005 SP3 on MU and WSUS
So just when you got used to patching SBS 2003 you now have to get used to SBS 2008. Tonight you get LOTS of practice.
First off if you manually go to Microsoft update, you'll see that your box may get two updates offered, one for SQL 2005 Express Edition sp3 and one for SQL 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP3. This is due to two different kinds of SQL instances.
SBS Monitoring uses -- SQL Express edition with Advanced Services, If you install any other SQL instance on that box you may get a patch for one without Advanced Services.
Microsoft SQL Server Release Services : SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 is now available on Microsoft Update (MU):
The main SP3 update for Standard, Workgroup, Developer and Enterprise Editions is available as an optional update on the Microsoft Update website and is visible when you choose "Custom" scan. It will be offered for each language and platform we support. All of these updates will be available through Windows Software Update Services (WSUS) also.
Starting in 2 weeks, the SP3 Update version for Express Edition, Express Edition with Advanced Services and Express Toolkit will be available as an automatic update. This update will be automatically downloaded and installed if you have accepted to receive updates through Microsoft Update and have enabled automatic updates on your Windows machine.
I'm still trying to figure out where .NET 3.5 is and whether that should be patched as well.
