Home based businesses
I was sitting with a group of folks today waiting for an event to begin and overheard the conversation of the folks behind me. They were speaking loud enought that it wasn't like I was eavesdropping mind you, but it was interesting listening into the two of them chat about their home based businesses. One of them worked with four other folks that also worked out of their homes. The other person worked for a firm but didn't go into the office.
In this time of economic uncertainty it allows the firms to be more flexible and not need large scale leased office space. If the firm is just starting it can devote resources to the firm rather than to rental of office space. Granted this may not work for all firms, but I found it interesting to hear that Home based businesses isn't just about single guy (or gal) shops that start working out of a bedroom or a garage, but sometimes it's about folks collaborating from home offices as well.
The other day the Home Server blog had some stats on Home based businesses: http://blogs.technet.com/homeserver/archive/2009/01/13/home-based-businesses.aspx How many of those are parts of larger firms?
