The cancer of technology

My brain has a technology bent.  I always see a technology bent towards things I see and read.

Tonight as all of the American TV shows are covering the very serious topic of cancer and they are urging folks to stand together, take responsibility and for researchers to join together, I'm reminded of a presentation on information security the other day where I asked the speaker why the bad guys were so good at monetizing insecurity while we were so bad at monetizing security.

He said how we had to fix this was to take responsibiiity.  We have to take responsibility for our systems.  We also needed push others to be responsible.  That responsibility includes ISPs that should filter out bad stuff.

Botnets are the cancer of technology right now.  Impacting our homes and consumers more than anyone else.  Impacting our trust of the Internet.  And yet we're not taking responsibility to fix this issue.

As you watch the show and we strive to get rid of human cancer, think of how we can urge our technology providers to get rid of the technology cancer we have as well.

Hi Susan,

I agree, two weeks ago because of this very issue we decided to do a weekly newsletter addressing these very issues. I'll send a copy of my newsletter for your feedback.

The problem, I don't think users care or will take the time to read what I'm putting in front of them. When do they care, when their data is compromised and their ID is stolen, then they're are pissed.

I haven't found an answer to change this attitude.

Thanks,

Brian
