Breaking the trust

http://peeved.org/blog/2008/07/01/

Good post.

"Is there any regression testing being done on patches deployed thru WSUS? Is there regression testing of the patch metadata being synchronized into Customers' WSUS databases? It sure doesn't look like it, on either front. "

"Yet again, I'm embarrassed to have my Microsoft "certification" and to be associated with them in any way. Way to foster trust in IT, Microsoft! "

Microsoft's best people probably work on the products that make real money.  WSUS doesn't bring in any direct revenue so you get what you pay for...

@Robert: The problem with that logic, I think, is that Microsoft "sells" WSUS as a capability of their operating systems. Sure, it doesn't bring in any direct revenue, but it could be argued that it drives sales of their products.

That aside, the irresponsibility that Microsoft is exercising with your servers (and my servers, and everyone else's servers) is inexcusable. Their mistakes have caused, and continue to cause, quantifiable monetary loss for their Customers. I bill my Customers for the time I spend correcting Microsoft-induced issues. What are my Customers going to do, send my bill to Microsoft?
