What caught my eye.... 

This update improves the reliability of Windows Vista SP1-based computers that experience issues in which large applications cannot run after the computer is turned on for extended periods of time. For example, when you try to start Excel 2007 after the computer is turned on for extended periods of time, a user may receive an error message that resembles the following:
EXCEL.EXE is not a valid Win32 application

Excel.exe? Isn't that one of those funky 3rd party applications so it's probably misbehaving so its OK if Windows thinks it's invalid.  The Vista test people probably never loaded it on any of the 10,000 test machines...  Maybe it's a Virus or something.  Sounds legit to me.

I just saw this myself last night and stumbled on this post by coincidence. At the same time double-clicking on .XLS file brought up the error that there was no association for that file type, not the EXCEL.EXE error. Freaky.

Off i go to test the "reliability and performance update."
