Need to install QUICKBOOKS 2008's database manager on Windows Server 2008 (aka SBS 2008)

Overview: You are able to install the Server Only installation of 2008 products of QuickBooks on Windows Server 2008 in a client server environment only.

To setup QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 8.0 for a client server environment follow the prompts to install the Server Only.

The following information is for a Qualified Information Technology person. If you do not understand Windows Security please contact your systems administrator.In a client /server environment it is important to have the following setup:

Share the folder that contains your Quickbooks company file and set its permissions to 'everyone' - Full Control.

Set the NTFS permissions (on the security tab of the folder properties) to include all domain QuickBooks users or the QuickBooks user group (if group membership has been assigned) for Full Control.

Add the qbdataserviceuser18 to the NTFS permissions and allow Full Control.

In Windows Control Panel, it is important set the following exceptions for the windows firewall:

Add the QuickBooks Database Server Manager and port 10180.

Does QuickBooks Enterprise work with Windows Server 2008 Terminal Services?

Windows Server 2008 and the enhanced security implemented in this operating system will not allow Quickbooks Enterprise Solutions 8.0 to operate properly without additional configuration by a qualified Information Technology person.

The additional configuration for Server 2008 may include setting up your Windows Policy Settings.

With the settings and exceptions listed, QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 8.0 will work in a client server configuration. Setting up a Windows workgroup type network is becoming more difficult to implement. There may be unusual user account and password restrictions. In a domain, only one login will be required and simplify setting up the proper security environment.
