This is where Vista is blowing it....

I like Vista, I really do.  But there's one area that it's totally blowing it and this post showcases it:

Microsoft IDT update corrupts Sigma Tel Sound - Desktop - Audio - Dell Community Forum#M83043:

The OEM experience is sucking.  Badly.  Way to go Microsoft and Dell for once again breaking the trust of updating.

Apple - Support - Discussions - IDT - Audio - IDT High Definition Audio ...:

Yeah it's even posted on the Apple forums where they are dual booting with Vista....

I really don't blame Mr. Blaster009 one bit.

I'm sick and tired of this.  Dell is full of morons.  Microsoft is full of
goons.

The next computer I buy will be one I build from scratch, and it's going to
be running Linux.

Thank you Microsoft for killing my PC experience, you won't be seeing
another dollar from me.

It's hilarious because today's the day they announce their "Vista has a bad
reputation" push.

This little wrinkle had me doing the driver dance for a day or so.

This is where the Dell driver is replaced by a Windows update driver. If you do a "clean" install the Codex never works. I was aaable to figure out that by installing the Dell Driver (32Bit Vista) and set the Vista Update driver to hidden everything stayed working. The newer Vista update driver would always cause sound to quit. (No sound device installed - Sigmatel.) sovled the problem on two Dell machines.

So? Like you can do anything about it? They pwned your a** long ago, and sold it to for DRM. You're not a customer, you're product.

Yes, I experienced the same issue. Had to roll back the audio driver, block the audio update, and then everything is fine. But magically, the hidden update did not show in the "Show hidden update" window...
