Being sticky

"Businesses are moving to Office because they want to use another Microsoft product: SharePoint, software that helps workers manage and share information. Eighty-seven percent of the businesses Forrester surveyed say they’ll buy SharePoint within the next 12 months. Collaboration is hot these days, and SharePoint gives information-technology departments a tool they can offer as an alternative to Google Apps, Zoho, MySpace or whatever other technology workers find on their own. While earlier versions of Office work with SharePoint, Office 2007 works the best, says McNabb. "

There's a phase I hear sometimes about "stickiness".  If you want a client to be 'sticky' to you and reliant on you, you install something that makes them want you more.  So if you want to take a page out of "evil Microsoft" or these days "evil Google" and make firms stuck to you, Sharepoint customization is one way to make them 'sticky'.

Because it's true... Office 2007 and Sharepoint 3 are the best pairup.

EXACTLY what I've been preaching for months, as an end-user/TDM/BDM. I am so impressed with SharePoint's capabilities I became an ISV Partner. I have two vaporware projects in the works, both based on SharePoint and both aimed at the small trial law firm market (e.g., http://casepoint.net). If you are a Small Business Specialist, you should be demonstrating SharePoint to your SBS customers and nagging, hounding, pestering them until they say, unequivocally, no thanks. And if they do that, you need to work on your presentation. Folks, you can make $$$$$ selling this. Every lawyer who has seen the very primitive and limited uses I make of SharePoint in my office asks, "How can I do that?"
