The story on downgrade rights

Eric blogs about downgrade rights... http://blogs.msdn.com/mssmallbiz/archive/2007/11/15/6279941.aspx

Apple has their podium ad.  I have yet to find a piece of software that I use on a daily basis that I can't get to run on Vista.  The vendor may say it's not "supported" but that doesn't mean I can't get it to run.  Someone said the other day that the real problem with Vista was drivers.. Video drivers and printer drivers.  And while I can say that Nvidia needs a wack upside the head from Steve Ballmer for being some of the major causes of issues for me personally, printer drivers have not been the issue.

I think it's more of an issue of vendor support rather than "it won't work"

It is a funny commercial though....

I just saw the recent Apple advertisement myself.  I sort of agree with the sentiment of "go buy a new one", since if it's old enough to be unsupported by the latest greatest operating system, it's probably well past its supported lifespan from the OEM as well.

Through the entire Windows XP -> Windows Vista 64b migration at my home the only device casualty we had was a really old scanner that while it had been on the "Designed for Windows XP" list, was long out of support from the manufacturer.  A new scanner only cost me $150 and it had better features and 64b support.  Small price to pay considering what I got.
