No @#$% Sherlock!
If you modify a system, above and beyond the manufacturers recommended tools and information, it is now your responsiblity to patch.

I spotted that and then had to figure out what vlite is.
First off when reading this post there's a couple of problems here in that vlite page, ... "if you installed the newly leaked".... okay folks that's good code hygene we're practicing here when we download things from unknown places and don't know where they come from.
Then in the Mydigitallife page is says "But if you download your Vista DVD ISO image from Internet from P2P network, there is high chance to catch this bug as the ISO may be modified."
As someone recently said in an email to me regarding another unrelated painfully obvious patching moment .... "No @#$% Sherlock!"
My code comes from the manufacturer. Not from a P2P network. Maybe that's why my Vista's are patching fine?
(edit) to anyone else who didn't get my point here... the comment wasn't in regards to vlite.. but rather "installing the patch from newly leaked" .. good code hygene there. Secondly "If you downloaded your image from P2P".. again ..great hygene.
As far as vlite is concerned, you can hack up the operating system all you want.. but it's now your code. And now you need to test patches against that changed code. Yes I know what vlite is (Actually more familiar with Nlite). But I also know that if you want consistent patch experiences it's with going with defaults. If that's so dumb, how come my Vista computers are patching just fine? You want a solid patching experience? You leave vlite off that computer. It's that simple... and that dumb.

KB938979 issue (updated)
2007.08.01 by nuhi
Just wanted to warn you not to install the newly leaked performance patch KB938979 if you removed components certain components with vLite.
Doing so might cause your system not to be able to rename folders and similar issues.
Components removed which cause this problem are:
Game Explorer
Printer Support
Sidebar
Media Samples
Windows Search
Sync Center
You can remove all other and the KB938979 will work just fine.
Fixed in the next version, out probably on monday, got to finish some other things as well.
