Vista and hibernation

Windows Vista SP1 Preview Information Center - Formerly Codename Fiji:

Pretty sad when I go to that web site that's been in the news to remember which hotfixes that I've seen that dealt with Vista problems resuming after hibernation.  This was due to a conversation I had with a partner there that said his Vista would freeze up after going into hibernation and I told him I'd seen hotfixes on point.

Is there a place on the MS website that lets you filter hotfixes by OS I wonder?

All of them are always a free call to Microsoft, or these days a free request.

With two monitors, I find Vista pretty much never works correctly in sleep or hibernation.  If I tell it to sleep, both monitors go dark for a few seconds, then one comes back on for signon.  If I lock the computer and turn the monitors off, when I turn them back on, all the icons on the right monitor have moved on top of the icons on the left monitor.  Often, during hibernate, it will not come back up at all.

I'm wondering why I'm not hearing about these problems.  Is using two monitors that unique?

And I thought it was just me.  I'm using Vista Ultimate on Intel's GMA X3000 with an ADD2 card.  The desktop is cloned onto the built-in VGA port and card's HDMI port.  The graphics properties are set to Monitor + Digital TV.  All works well until Vista sleeps automatically via power setting.

On wake-up, occasionally it is fine, very often the monitor is disabled and only digital TV is enabled (resolution is also reset), occasionally it blue screens immediately, and rarely it wakes up and hangs with no monitor enabled.  I've been blaming Intel's graphics driver, but maybe it is a Vista issue.

With XP, you get a progress bar when the computer goes into hibernation. With vista the screen goes black and the only indication that the hibernation is underway is the noise of the fan and the HD light. What was Microsoft thinking?

On the other hand, sometimes in my computer the disk activity stops but the computer would not turn off. Clearly the hibernation process in Vista is buggy.

Using Dual Monitors and Vista Ultimate I cannot get the computer to hibernate properly, the screens go dark and the computer fans keeps whirring away and I cannot rouse it from slumber from the keyboard (which is a Bluetooth Dinovo Edge).  It seems like it never properly hibernates.

I also have problems constantly with hibernation resumption.  I have experienced all of the above indicated problems as well as a few more.

I have noticed that ooften, when using two monitors and turning off the one registered as the default monitor, when it is resumed, the mouse pointer will not reappear on that monitor.

With all of these problems, it is rather clear that Microsoft did realize them, because the hibernation option is completely hidden through any GUI and can only be activated initially through a prompt entry.

Hopefully this will all be resolved soon...
