Excel and Real Estate

Want to see one reason why some folks that live and breathe spreadsheets will want to upgrade from Office 2003 and earlier to Office 2007?

That was then....

This is now...

See the difference?  If you have a firm that lives and breathes pivot tables... show them this blog post. They will go ... oh wow... you mean I can go from about 65,000 rows to 1,048,572 rows of data?

And that's exactly the conversation my Sister and I had tonight.. about how in her firm that they want to upgrade "just" the Excel part because they have needs for this large of spreadsheets...I showed her the new ribbon bar and she didn't care if the toolbars were moved around... she wanted the real estate and rows...

How Silly.

Excel has had this limitation forever.  Anyone that ran into it just used another product.  Because Microsoft long since refused to address it.  Excel and Word have had several artificial limitations for over a decade.

How about Tables in Word?  Can word handle large tables with complex formatting?  Nope.  Not sure if Word '07 addressed it, and I don't care, it's been a limitation so long my users don't put anything close to a large table into Word.  It corrupts the document.

For shame on MS, however, allowing large anything to corrupt a document.  The program should stop people when it reaches these limits.  But yeah because it has a 07 on it that makes it worthwhile.
