Do you inventory your network?

Nick writes in about his inventory tool a WMI script tool:

He says:  "The short of it is that it uses WMI and automates the hardware/software information gathering and inventory process (computer name, OS info, antivirus info, installed apps, etc.), with a focus on simplicity and portability (just change the LDAP path and go).  It doesn't do everything - but it's something that I use for doing documentation on our SBS client networks, and since it's all vbscript it can be modified fairly easily. "

Easy for him maybe?   :-)

About the script: http://addicted-to-it.blogspot.com/2007/01/ad-coit-v23-inventory-tool-released-on.html

Sample Output: http://addicted-to-it.blogspot.com/2006/12/wmi-ad-coit-23-sample-output.html

..and it reminded me of Darren the GPO guy's WMI validator tool http://www.gpoguy.com/wmiftest.htm too!

I've been using SpiceWorks for some time now with my clients and find that it's a really great tool for the SBS market.  Worth taking a look at, http://www.spiceworks.com.  Their revenue model is based on Google Ads that are delivered in the main screen, but output to any number of reporting methods is a cinch.

Spiceworks is pretty nice for networks.  For individual PCs I've used Belarc Advisor in the past (www.belarc.com).

Tim - I hope you got a licence for Belarc Advisor if you used it in a business environment!

We use Zentzu's sysdocumenter from http://www.zentzu.com/sysdocumenter which is another vbscript documenter. Works really well with AD and hasn't needed much tweaking. Well worth a look and as it's free......
