Migratin' a server
Yoda ...the blog server is a dual hardware raid 35 gig box that every now and then I have to ensure we aren't backing up too much or too little. Right now it's running on SQL 2000 but I really need to up' it to SQL 2005 ...which I have a license for and all that... I mean I've got a totally legal license to back end this sucker and the applicaition I'm running totally supports it and all.... so why am I not on SQL 2005 already? Because right now Yoda is carting about about 5 gigs of SQL data.. and regardless of the fact that it's rants. opinion and blog spam, it's still a database. One that one doesn't migrate on a whim.
So I need to migrate the .net to 2.0 and migrate the SQL to the 2005 ....and probably grow Yoda's drive (tummy) size as well.
I think we'll image the drives in order to expand the "tummy" size to bigger drives. 36 gig is workable...but I have to keep an eye on the size a tad more than I'd like.. and I'm spoiled with my SBS daily email.
So how do you migrate databases?
P.S.... I prob should have asked about how you "upgrade" versus migrate ..as sometimes that's the more fun experience.
