Exchange 2003 patch on SBS 2003 boxes

If you install the patch... and manually restart the services... are you protected from the iCal/Exchange vulnerability?

Answer.. no you are not.  If the box indicates that it needs to reboot.. it means that you need to reboot that box.  So far three out of three SBS servers I've tested have needed a reboot.  Now mind you I have not stopped the services before applying the patch (I'm going to try that tonight)

Next.. if you are NOT seeing that this patch is being offered to you when you go to manually update that box... make sure you have flipped that box to MICROSOFT UPDATE..and not Windows update.  Only on MU will you see that Exchange patch being offered to you...

Start

Windows Update

See that button that wants you to go to Microsoft update?  Flip the box.

(update) in particular I'm seeing the following in the KB916803 patch log file (you can see this too on your SBS boxes after it installs)... cdoex.dll is one of two files in that patch thus making the boxes I'm seeing wanting a reboot

79.968: IsRebootRequiredForFileQueue: c:\program files\common
files\microsoft shared\cdo\cdoex.dll was delayed; reboot is required.

it could be that wmi also uses the dlls and is not stopped.
