What's your IMF settings?

So what's your IMF settings?

Some here are 6, archive, 2.... 5 would be better but gives a few false positives...

Some are reject =6, move to junk =4

Some use the IMF archive manager....some use the one from Hello

Delta airlines seems to get knocked out at 7... but putting it at 8 lets in too much gunk

...so what do you use?

Why, www.ExchangeDefender.com of course :)

Honestly, I keep the IMF stuff off and on sites that don't have ExchangeDefender I set it pretty low. The problem is with retrieving false positives - there is no automation - so I nuke the most obvious stuff and trust Junk Folders for the rest.

2/6 for most of my clients. I have looked thru 10's of thousands of emails (quickly, of course) using IMFAM and found virtually no false positives except for a few newsletters or listservs. I use NEMX for a few that have specific whitelist needs. Clients love it.

However, the same settings on my own server, puts a lot of valid mail in the archive! I find a lot of junk in the 5-6 range, but I have a lot of legitimate mail there too. SBS Daily Reports end up in my junk and/or archive folder... BlackBerry messages ALWAYS end up in junk mail with an SCL in the 3-4 range (could that be a MS plot?)

Still, not bad for a 'free' solution. I just wish they had a white list. How hard could that be?

8 = delete
4 = junk

I've found that my own newsletter to clients scores a 7. 7 seems to capture many html newsletters.

These settings with the IMF updates enabled and regular updates of the junk mail filter applied seem to do the trick. Most folks aren't updating these two items and unless you do you'll find that the filters become ineffective pretty rapidly.

5 - Junk

Any lower than 7 and I get too many false positives. But at 7, I've been averaging about one false positive out of about 2000 blocked. I can live with that, and I'll shortly be dumping the archive and just deleting the things.
